My second ever anime convention was in Winston Salem. I did this con by myself, but had a lot of friends who helped me throughout. I arrived Friday morning for set up instead of Thursday since it was further away from me, but still commuted back and forth each day. Friday I realized how hard it is to do things by myself. I had bought more cubes (from kmart) that fit with my old silver cubes. I dropped a lot of things trying to load in and ended up setting all the way up about an hour in. Luckily two good friends from the previous con came by to make sure I had the help I needed. They helped me set up my cubes and I couldn't be more grateful. The artist alley coordinator watched my money box as I made trips back and forth. And a friend of mine in the NC Brony group made sure I was fed. Another friend and NC staff member made sure I had bathroom breaks.
This was another con I went back and made more product. This con happened a few days after Toby Fox allowed the sale and creation of undertale fanart, so I had my hands full trying to make enough Napstablook to satisfy everyone. I literally brought materials to make more and would have people pay and then sit waiting for me to finish. It was insane! Sales were also insane! It was my first con with bell collars. They're tie-on. Something great to run around the con for a weekend in. Hancock was going out of business so I was able to get a lot of ribbon and bells for cheap. Also got a lot of fur for cheap that way. My tails did well at ichibancon. I made them from a yard of fur that was sent to me in error and was told to keep while the correct fur was sent to me. They did well and with more colors, they just did even better.
This was the first con where I had my sushi keychains. I loved how they looked, but they never did well. They'd travel with me until AWA 2016 where I ended up giving them away to a bunch of fellow artists.
Of note was meeting an awesome con goer in a wheelchair who would become a regular of mine. She's so sweet her and her friend. Made the con awesome. I had an issue where someone who had bought a few tails for her kids from me and came back later saying I charged her card over 900 dollars. I was shocked and luckily had a tech savvy friend who showed her the charges were made by another booth and I couldn't refund something I hadn't charged to her. The kid looked ashamed. Seems he had taken the credit card and went on a spree. This is when I learned the importance of sending receipts and of getting signatures from people who bought from me. I was also never truly alone despite working by myself because I had friends with me the whole time.
The location of the con was in downtown winston salem which was a pain to drive through and find the con. The location was really nice, but we were in an open area with natural lighting. It was very hot and it got really dark. That was only an issue the first day as it was the day we were open the latest. I was on the corner at the back so I worried it would hurt sales, but I was right by the bathrooms and panels so it worked out. There were very few artists and dealers at this con, which boosted sales. It was the last year Triad was in this location and so far the best I've done at triad. Triad is so local to me (now) that any money made is profit and I love the staff so as long as I can get into this con, I will do this con! Another classic and with this money I was able to pay off more debt and make one last hancock fabric trip before they closed!
